First COBRA KAI Teaser Hints At a KARATE KID Rematch

It's been over 30 years since Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny (William Zabka) faced off in the finals at the All-Valley Karate Tournament in Karate Kid.

Entertainment Weekly called dibs on the first teaser.

"I just don't know why you'd ever want to bring back Cobra Kai", Daniel tells his high school enemy while they stare at each other across the renovated dojo.

Watch out for Cobra Kai on YouTube Red later this year. Even after his sensei attacked him at the beginning of The Karate Kid Part II, Johnny still hasn't learned his lesson. Hurwitz and Schlossberg take on directing duties.

Set more than three decades after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, Cobra Kai - if you need a refresher, that's the name of the old dojo - finds Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) living a comfortable life with his family in Encino, running a string of vehicle dealerships.

YouTube on Thursday released the first footage of its forthcoming Karate Kid TV sequel, Cobra Kai. We're not sure how a guy like that has the money or resources to reopen a karate dojo, but we'll go along for the ride. Meanwhile, as adults both Johnny and Daniel are living the lives we assume that bullies and kind-hearted underdogs get to live - Daniel is a business man with success and a family while Johnny cleans septic tanks and is mistaken for homeless.

Courtney Henggeler (Mom) will play Macchio's wife and Mary Mouser (Freakish) plays their daughter. Ed Asner will appear as a guest star.

Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) wrote Cobra Kai with Harold & Kumar franchise creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and they're all executive producing the series with Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett.
