Gov. Rick Scott: FBI Answer 'Unacceptable' on Florida Shooting, Wray Should Resign

- The FBI admits they failed to investigate a tip from a person concerned of the suspected South Florida school shooter.

Cruz, who had a history of troubling behavior, was expelled from the school past year for "disciplinary reasons".

Noting that he doesn't know exactly what it takes for the FBI to investigate these sorts of tips, Bennight acknowledged that "had more time and effort been put into finding out who the username belongs to, ... they may have been able to find out who this person was and put him on their radar".

The agency acknowledged that the tip-off should have been shared with the FBI's Miami office and investigated, but it was not.

"You're sad and depressed at one point, you're angry at another point, you're hopeless, you're stressed, it's just ups and downs and hitting you in waves".

The information was not handled appropriately, however, the top United States law enforcement agency said, and no action was taken.

"We have uncovered at the Broward Sheriff's Office that we've had approximately 20 calls for service over the last few years regarding the killer", Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.

The FBI apologized on Friday for failing to act on a tip they received about Cruz in January.

Around Thanksgiving, Nikolas Cruz moved in with a friend's family. Throughout that time, he has done everything in his power to ensure that people like Nikolas Cruz would be able to legally purchase AR-15 assault rifles. The governor called for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director to resign. The bureau said it received a tip in September a year ago about the message that read: "I'm going to be a professional school shooter", by a user named Nikolas Cruz.

Nikolas Cruz, who officials have identified as the man who killed 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, may have hinted at his horrific February 14 attack five months ago.

Special Agent Rob Lasky, in charge of the FBI's Miami division, said the agency investigated the comment, but said it could not identify the user who made the comment.

Seventeen people, including the suspect, were sent to area hospitals, said Dr. Evan Boyar of Broward Health.

Several previous mass shooters have left behind digital warning signs, like social media pages filled with guns or videos announcing their intent.

Broward County Sheriff's deputies received at least 36 emergency 911 calls from 80th Terrace St., in Parkland - the suburban address where the teenager lived with his younger brother, Zachary, and their adoptive mother, Lynda, BuzzFeed reported.

Bennight said he also flagged the comment to YouTube, which removed the comment from the video.

Cruz has confessed to the shooting, according to an arrest affidavit reported by the New York Times and others. Cruz was expelled from Stoneman Douglas High in 2017.

The Palm Beach Post reports Rocxanne Deschamps said "He bought a gun and wanted to bring it into my house" in public comments that have since been removed from her Facebook page.
