Nasty New Bug Is Crashing iPhones

The bug seems to be fixed on the latest iOS 11.3 developer beta already, though it's affecting the latest, public version of iOS which is what the majority of iPhone users are now using. You can ask a friend to send you another message and try to delete the thread containing the troublesome character. Messaging apps like iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger will also crash if the character is received. Those who have enabled web access can delete the bad message from the web. Skype and Telegram don't seem to be impacted by the bug, according to The Verge. This time, the culprit is a single Indian (Telugu) character.

Two unicodes have been found that will crash nearly any app running on a Mac or iOS device. Messages will no longer open.

This severe bug wreaks havoc without requiring any complex action, as a simple character can crash iPhones and disable the aforementioned apps. In this case the entire SpringBoard may crash. The site further states that the specific characters will crash any app on which the characters are displayed.

'If this happens, wait and hope that the Springboard will restart properly, because if you force a reboot of the device, it will bootloop'.

TechCrunch has learned of a potentially serious new bug affecting a wide range of Apple devices. For example, if it were sent in a WhatsApp message, the recipient's WhatsApp app would freeze and shut down upon receiving that message.

The company said older versions were not affected by the bug and added that Apple had already fixed the issue in the current beta versions of the operating systems.

The Verge reported that several third-party apps are also susceptible to the bug.

A new bug has been discovered in Apple's software that reportedly can crash your iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch.
