Never Mind, Google isn't Giving Android P a Dark Mode

Google in a statement to Android Police has confirmed that they aren't adding native, system-wide support for dark mode in Android P. And, the issue tracker that had Dark Mode marked as "fixed" was a result of miscommunication with the concerned team. Users have been requesting this feature for years and now, finally, it seemed official. Now in the past Google has teased the feature going back to Android Marshmallow and also Android Nougat. Dark mode isn't happening after all, folks.

Recently, the network appeared rumors that in Android 9 will appear dark theme, it is Dark Mode, the system will return to the origins - up to version 4.x Android had a dark theme to it. Unfortunately, this bug was closed prematurely due to a miscommunication with the team that handles AOSP issues.

One of the interesting tidbits in the latest version of Android that has been found by the Reddit user is the support of Native Dark Mode which could be available in Android P. Google has replied to a native dark mode support request by saying that "Our engineering team has added this feature".

Sadly this hysteria came to an abrupt end as someone from Google noticed the news and reopened the thread to explain that the Dark Mode is not coming to future Android releases. Currently, only by installing 3rd party apps can we enable this Dark Mode.

"If it's any consolation, we will also not be adding Hot Dog Mode (where all UI elements are yellow and red)". The team at Google informed that what they have actually added in a future Android release (not specifically Android P) is a quick toggle for the night UI qualifier through the Developer Options to create and test apps which implement Dark Mode like Twitter and JioMusic do.
