SpaceX Delays Next Falcon 9 Launch to February 21

The two demonstration satellites, known as Microsat-2a and Microsat-2b, will launch as the so-called secondary payload on the Falcon 9 launch, according to documents filed this month with the Federal Communications Commission. Now that it's been some time since that launch, it's time for the company to return to its regular routine.

The next launch from the Space Coast will likely be a SpaceX satellite launch for Latin America in late February.

That mission is now set for February 21 (Wednesday this week) after a couple of delays, and the goal will be to have the fairing return to Earth gently, assisted by geotagged parachutes that help guide it down to the Pacific Ocean, where Mr. Steven will navigate into its path, hopefully recovering the fairing as it gently touches down. According to Space, developing reusable and recoverable payload fairings would provide significant savings to SpaceX-each one costs about $5 million.

The rocket, which was scheduled to launch on Sunday, has been delayed to allow for additional checks. The company has been experimenting with parachutes on its fairings and built a giant ship equipped with metal arms to catch these fairings when they splash into the ocean. The remaining parts of the Falcon 9 rocket are already prepared for the new launch after being recycled. The rocket will be sending the company's first Starlink broadband satellites as well as the Paz radar-imaging satellite for Spain into orbit.

"Back in 2015, Facebook decided against spending up to $1 billion on a satellite that would provide Internet to under-served regions in Africa and other continents".

A SpaceX satellite launch from California that could create a spectacular aerial display has been delayed.

SpaceX aims to use reusable rocket technology in order to reduce the costs of spaceflight and space travel.

As the video clearly demonstrates, consumer-grade camera technology is not capable of steadily tracking a fast-moving rocket (anyone have a 10,000mm lens I can borrow for the next rocket launch?).

As Space.com reports, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk apparently expects to come up with solutions to fairing recovery in the next six months, which would streamline the refurbishment and reuse process.
