The Greatest American Hero Reboot Casts Lead

The Greatest American Hero Reboot Casts Lead

The surest sign that we're in a golden age for superhero television might very well be the news that there's a new version of The Greatest American Hero in the works at ABC, the network where it originally aired. Fruchbom will also write the script and collaborate as a producer with TV director Tawnia McKiernan, the daughter of Steven J. Cannell, the producer of the original series.

What do you think of Hannah Simone as the lead of The Greatest American Hero?

The original The Greatest American Hero series starred William Katt (yes, the minister from "Crisis on Earth-X") as a school teacher who got his superhuman powers after a group of aliens gave him a super suit.

Believe or not, Hollywood seems committed to rebooting The Greatest American Hero and has finally picked its new lead star: Hannah Simone from New Girl.

Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan of Fresh Off the Boat are now in the process of developing this project as a single-camera comedy pilot for ABC; Simone's comedy stylings should fit right in given that she has the comic timing for the role. Set in the 1970s, it follows an Irish-Catholic family with a working-class dad (Cudlitz), traditional mom, and eight boisterous sons navigating changes big and small during one of America's most turbulent decades.

The 37-year-old will play Meera, a woman who's life is turned upside-down when she's entrusted with a bodysuit that grants superpowers to its wearer. "She may have finally found goal, but the world has never been in more unreliable hands".

Simone has played the BFF to Zooey Deschanel in TV's New Girl the past seven seasons, but that series is starting to wrap up.
