The Nunes memo: Damning or dumb?

The Nunes memo: Damning or dumb?

He says that then, "we'll brief the president on it and he will have a decision to make" on whether to declassify it entirely, or perhaps declassify it with some redactions.

Trump has until the end of the week to decide whether to allow the Democratic memo's release. And the House Intelligence Committee voted unanimously Monday to do just that.

After it was released on his orders February 2, President Trump tweeted it "totally" vindicated him.

The Republican memo, written by Nunes' staff, asserts that the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation failed to tell a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that they were basing their requests to monitor Page, suspected of having ties to the Russians, on a dossier created by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele and paid for by Democrats. Grassley and Graham recommend that both be investigated.

The version of the memo the Republicans provided to Trump had already been vetted and redacted by the National Security Council and lawyers from the White House Counsel's office.

Republicans embrace idea of "Russia collusion"... with Hillary Clinton Efforts to topple President Donald Trump by accusing him of collusion with Russian Federation may have backfired on the Democrats, but in one major respect they have won: Republicans now treat Moscow as the bogeyman too.

Schiff and other Democrats have raised questions about whether the committee chairman, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes of California, coordinated with the White House in drafting the GOP memo.

Republicans allege the FBI, in pursuing a Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Court warrant as part of an investigation into Russia's influence over Donald Trump's inner circle, hid from a FISA judge the fact that evidence used to justify this surveillance warrant came from biased research funded by Democrats in the 2016 presidential race.

The White House, for its part, has confirmed receiving the Democrats' memo.

The White House is reviewing the Democratic memo. Nunes strongly implies, but doesn't quite say, that without the dossier, which was misrepresented by prosecutors, there would be no Russian Federation investigation. Instead, it confirms that "The Page FISA application also mentions information regarding fellow Trump campaign advisor (George) Papadopoulus..." The committee has subpoenaed Bannon to appear but the interview has been pushed back three times. And it does not address the fact that Page himself, testifying before the House Intelligence Committee in November, corroborated numerous Steele dossier's statements about his interactions with Russians in July 2016 when he traveled to Moscow.

As a second week of memo-watching commenced, the committee was also prepared to interview Steve Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist, as part of the Russian Federation probe.

On Tuesday, Kelly told a source close to the White House that President Donald Trump had not yet reviewed the Democratic memo, but that he expected the White House to approve its release-with some minor redactions for security reasons.

Now, Democrats on the intelligence panel want to release their own memo. Any time a FISA warrant is renewed, law enforcement officials have to prove that their surveillance yielded actionable intelligence.

You know that guy we can't trust anymore, who is obsessed with defeating Trump and electing Hillary, please go on trusting everything he told us.

"I'm not going to speculate", said Rep. Mike Conaway, who is running the House Russia investigation, when asked if he would override the President. But now, Lewandowski's refusal to testify has infuriated Democrats, who have long called to subpoena him, and put Republicans in an awkward position as they wrestle with whether to issue an official summons - and if they do, whether Lewandowski will respond to it.
