US VP skips Olympic dinner to snub North Korean officials

Curlers are curling and skiers are jumping in Pyeongchang, but the Winter Olympics do not formally kick off until Friday night with the opening ceremony.

United Nations deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters at United Nations headquarters that Guterres sat near 90-year-old Kim Yong Nam at a dinner Friday night, and they were also near each other during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

During the Opening Ceremony, Deulgukhwa's Jeon In Kwon, Lee Eun Mi, Guckkasten's Ha Hyun Woo, and Bolbbalgan4's Ahn Ji Young performed John Lennon's "Imagine" together.

Moon and Abe met Friday hours before the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Despite the ban, 168 "Olympic Athletes from Russia" will compete in Pyeongchang. The North's taekwondo team performed in South Korea during WT's World Taekwondo Championships in Muju, North Jeolla Province.

She is the first immediate member of the North's ruling family to visit since the 1950-1953 Korean war and was greeted by Moon Jae-in, the South's president.

The flame was lit by South Korea's Olympic heroine Kim Yu-Na, who enthralled the crowds in Vancouver where she won Olympic figure skating gold in 2010.

Footage showed scuffles breaking out and some protesters tearing apart portraits of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

When North and South Korean athletes jointly marched into the stadium under a unified Korean flag, Kim, wearing a black coat, waved with Moon before shaking hands again as they stood together with the other delegates from Pyongyang.

"Well, is my sister getting the same treatment?" he said.

In a freaky stunt, two men dressed as Kim Jong-un and USA president Donald Trump were led from the premises, down in the bowels of the arena.

"However, I will say that being here in South Korea, it seems like the Olympics, an event like this, has started a dialogue between North Korea and South Korea", Alan told reporters.

It was during those fireworks-splashed ceremonies that viewers got what is likely to be the first of many listens to one of South Korea's biggest exports in the past decade: PSY's global smash "Gangnam Style". Seventeen North Korean taekwondo practitioners followed next, showing powerful moves.

It came after athletes from North and South Korea, who are still technically at war, marched under the unification flag to bring the athletes' parade to a close.
