After Lenin, Periyar, Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi's statue defaced in Kerala

The statue vandalised by people is situated in Thaliparamba area.

The report said that the unidentified miscreant broke the spectacles, damaged the garland and hurled stones on the statue.

An investigation is on. The incident occurred at around 7 am on Thursday. The attack was noticed on Thursday morning.

The incident came at the back of dislodging of Lenin's statue in Tripura and the desecration of a bust of Periyar in Tamil Nadu's Vellore. On Wednesday another statue of Dr Ambedkar was also damaged by unidentified people in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.

Wednesday's condemnation, warnings and appeals coincided with Jana Sangh founder and BJP icon Syama Prasad Mookerjee's bust being blackened and its features smashed by an ultra-Left student outfit of Jadavpur University in Kolkata.

"Such incidents will not stop and are a result of the weak Central government". The police have arrested one man in connection with the incident.

The first instance of the statue vandalism, namely the razing to the ground of the Lenin statue in Tripura, took place only 2 days after the BJP secured a historic win in the state, removing from power the Left.

In wake of the recent attacks on statues of prominent personalities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh condemned these incidents and have urged states to take stern action against those accountable.

The home minister has appealed to political parties to ensure that those found desecrating statues are dealt with strictly.
