Apple is reportedly launching a cheaper MacBook Air this year

As 9To5Mac reports, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a couple of investor notes late last week among which he predicts Apple will launch a cheaper MacBook Air in the second quarter of this year. The exact timelines are anyone's guess, but it is believed that the announcement will happen sometime in Q2 2018.

This surely has set the cat among the pigeons.

That's according to a new report that suggests that the laptop will get new features and a new lower price tag this year. While Apple managed to successfully discontinue the 11-inch MacBook Air in 2016, the 13-inch variant has remained on the shelves, albeit without any major upgrades or even visual changes. "Rather, all attention have been focused on other models like MacBook Pro and the Macbook with 12" screen. The current model now starts at $999 and could get much costlier depending on options. MacBook Air is expensive due to its thin and light body. Competitors of Apple are now offering super light laptop that features 1080 displays.

The current version of the laptop costs $999 with the base model, which is a price that most people would not be able to pay for.

But that does pose a challenge for Apple.

Apple has been accused of being many things, but "cheap" isn't one of them.

It is likely, MacBook Air the 2018 and will receive a new display, because the current version supports the old solution 1440h900 pixels, as Windows laptops for $ 250. This is a conundrum for anyone who isn't exactly using apps that may be unique to either the iPad's iOS platform or the MacBook's macOS platform-the choice is wide, and can be confusing. As to what the upgrade will include, that's hard to predict. Apple won't want to offer a cheaper laptop that reduces the amount of 12-inch MacBooks it is selling. The new MacBook could be created to counter exactly that.
