Blue-chip prospect Darius Bazley decommits from Syracuse to join National Basketball Association G League

With McDonald's All American Darius Bazley becoming the first five-star prospect to take the high school-to-G League approach, there is a strong belief around the National Basketball Association that this could open the door for more players as an alternative avenue to playing professionally.

The 17-year-old All-American is now projected as a top-10 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and as a 6'9 ball handler with playmaking skills, it's possible that he rises even higher.

According to Yahoo, players in the G League have base salaries of $19,500 or $26,000, and Bazley's decision to forego the traditional route to the National Basketball Association will give the G League its first test in handling a premiere prospect. The G League is the closest thing to the National Basketball Association.

"I talked to my high school coach, Steve, who played overseas, and then I talked to a couple of guys in the G League who have experience".

One of the top players in the class of 2018, Bazley committed to SU in 2017. He originally committed to Syracuse last June. Ultimately, playing professional basketball has always been my dream.

"As far as maturity-wise, I believe I am as mature as they come, if not more mature, than guys that are in the G League and some guys in the NBA", Bazley told Yahoo Sports. Not only are you getting paid to play the sport you love, but you're getting the development that you need and want.

Bazley's decommitment from Syracuse comes just two days after redshirt freshman Matthew Moyer announced his decision to transfer. I'm not playing any games with this. It also raised its salaries, although without the two-way and camp options, Bazley won't make more than $26,000 in G League earnings next season, according to the tiered salary structure of the developmental league, a source told ESPN. I'm attacking this straight forward. I'm taking this head on. "(Syracuse) made the Sweet 16 this year without him so we just going to have to find a way to get back". While players still must be 19 to enter the NBA Draft, the age limit for G League players is 18.

Nassir Little of Orlando Christian Prep is congratulated by teammates Keldon Johnson of Oak Hill Academy and Darius Bazley of Princeton High School after he won the MVP trophy in the McDonald's All American Game.

Bazley, a five-star prospect in the Class of 2018, was committed to Ohio State from August 27, 2016 until April 26, 2017.
