British Police Investigate Hate Letters Promoting 'Punish a Muslim Day'

A "Punish a Muslim day" letter that encourages violence against members of the religion is being investigated by counter-terrorism police.

The letters have been found in Bradford, East London and Yorkshire so far.

"It seems odd that anyone would send something like this to an address in a predominantly Muslim area".

Indeed, in a communiqué issued on Sunday, 11th of March, the South Yorkshire Police's Assistant Chief Constable reassured "communities that a full investigation is underway into malicious communications sent to addresses across the UK".

Home Office minister Victoria Atkins said in Parliament: "The Government condemns the content of these letters as clearly abhorrent with no place in a decent society".

In a hate-filled diatribe, it encourages supporters not to be "sheep" and says: "Sheep follow orders and are easily led, they are allowing the white majority nations of Europe and North America to become over-run by those who like nothing more than to do us harm and turn our democracies into Shaira led police states".

The letter bears an image similar to the royal coat of arms and there is also an image of a dagger with the letters MS, suggesting it is linked to so-called Muslim Slayer who targeted mosques in London and the United States a year ago with similar threats.

It promised ten points for verbally abusing a Muslim, and 100 points for a physical attack. "The investigation into these instances is now being coordinated by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit (NECTU) and these enquiries are ongoing".

In light of the hate letters delivered to random people, Malaysian Digest spoke with a Malaysian interior designer based in London, who shared his worry as it encourages people to perform terrible acts against Muslims. A document by Tell MAMA suggested how one "Muslim Slayer" reportedly targeted mosques in London and the U.S.in 2017.

"(The matter) is being treated with the utmost seriousness", the organization said.

"I would appeal to the wider community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police, " she added.

"Anyone with any concerns about a communication they may have received should contact their local police force".

It said: "If you receive this letter, please try to limit the amount of handling of the letter to preserve evidence and immediately report it to the police and Mend's Islamophobia response unit".

"I think it has been sent out by a group with the intent of alarming people and to stir up racial hatred", he told The Telegraph.

"Public safety remains our priority and I would urge our communities to be vigilant but not frightened", West Yorkshire police said in a statement.

With the Counter-Terrorism police noting the letter as an act of hate crime, Tell MAMA UK is working closely with the authorities in an effort to identify the perpetrators behind the loathsome letter.
