In a meeting with his secretaries at the top office on Monday, Moon hoped that the PyeongChang Paralympics will serve as another opportunity to significantly enhance South Koreans' perceptions of the disabled just as the Seoul Paralympics did 30 years ago. During the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in February, Russian athletes were allowed under the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) banner.

Kendall Gretsch struck gold for the second straight day, winning the women's 12km sitting biathlon one day after winning gold in the 6km. Marie and guide Jack Leitch won the first Canadian gold in the visually impaired downhill. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native already captured gold in the downhill race but looks to rebound after failing to finish the super-G competition.

With the 17 goals, Canada has now scored 991 since Hockey Canada took over the sledge hockey program in 2004. Italy beat Norway 3-2 in the penalty shootout in a nerve-racking opening game.

Canada will be in tough against an undefeated Chinese squad (5-0) but have a chance to right the ship against a struggling American team (1-4).
