Court allows Hafiz Mohammed Saeed's party registration

Court allows Hafiz Mohammed Saeed's party registration

Earlier, the ECP had declined to register the MML, citing Saeed's alleged terror links.

Justice Aamer Farooq sent the case back to the ECP asking it to proceed further on the application by giving the party an opportunity of hearing, Dawn newspaper reported. However, the decision has now been suspended by the HC.

The Islamabad high court has given a gree signal to Election Commission of Pakistan to register Hafiz Saeed's political party Milli Muslim League (MML) for the general election. He is the prime organiser of the Mumbai terror attacks.

Media reports claim that the MML is a sub-branch of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) and the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD), both founded and nurtured by Hafiz saeed.

Recently, Pakistan has been facing heat from the worldwide community to do more when it comes to taking action against terror activities and terror groups emanating from its soil.

The court's latest order also comes in the backdrop of a meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an intergovernmental money-laundering watchdog, that put Pakistan on a grey list.

Taking a stern view of the developments taking place in Pakistan, MEA spokesperson today said that India's concerns of inaction against Saeed have been echoed by the entire global community as well.

After the November 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, the United Nations Security Council had banned the JuD. Saeed has now announced to contest this year's elections under the MML banner.

The banned JuD head was released from the house arrest in November previous year after the Pakistan government decided against detaining him further in any other case.

His counsel Advocate A.K. Dogar had contended that a delegation of the United Nations visited the country in January last and the government meant to take adverse action against the petitioner.
