Dolphins reportedly looking to trade Jarvis Landry

The Miami Dolphins wasted little time last week in making a decision on star wide receiver Jarvis Landry's contract situation by placing the franchise tag on him on the first day it was eligible. Despite the financial commitment, the Dolphins haven't yet agreed to bring Landry back for the 2018 season.

Jarvis Landry could still be a target for the Baltimore Ravens even after being franchise tagged. That means Landry is free to negotiate with other teams and sign an offer sheet. Once he does so, a trade is still unlikely unless he is willing to sign a long-term deal with the interested team.

The tag comes with a projected one-year salary of $16.2 million, so the thinking is the Dolphins and Landry are probably close on a multi-year deal. Last season, the salary cap was $167 million and the franchise tag for receivers at $15.682 million.

In January, his agent Damarius Bilbo said Landry would not accept a discount to remain in Miami while saying the negotiating process was "disrespectful". Along with $211,802 for his signing bonus, the Dolphins absorbed a cap hit of $1.1 million. He set a record with 400 receptions in his first four National Football League seasons and recorded over 1,100 receiving yards in 2015 and 2016. He was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster on January 9 as an injury replacement for Houston Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins. Despite that instability, Landry also set career highs in receptions (112) and touchdowns (9).

The Dolphins selected Landry at No. 63 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.
