Easyjet celebrates female pilot record for International Women's Day

Women will operate worldwide services from Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Mangalore, Mumbai and Delhi airports.

With over 100 female pilots on today's roster, 60 per cent of easyJet's female flight crew have come out in force to take part in a campaign which is using the hashtag #SheFlies to raise awareness for the airline's Amy Johnson Flying Initiative, a campaign by the airline to encourage more women to become pilots.

"As a mum of two teenage daughters I think it's crucial that we grab every opportunity we can to inspire the next generation".

"So many people think the jobs on the ramp, under the wings of aircraft, are just for men", Joanne Kershaw, a ramp manager for the airline, said in a statement.

"There wasn't any visibility of female pilots when I was growing up, so I think events like this are important to help show the range of different careers that are available to women".

This is not the first time that Air India has done something of this nature.

The British Airways flight had 204 customers onboard, and that number included British Airways student ambassadors who are interested in a future in the aviation industry.

The national carrier also boasts of having created a world record in 2017 by operating the longest-ever all women crew flight around the world on the Delhi-San Francisco-Delhi route.

Air India-India's national carrier airline would be operating several all-women crew flights for marking the International Women's Day which is falling on the 8 of March.

In addition to the flight crew, an all-women team worked on all "above wing" and "below wing" activities in the lead up to flight departure.

Egyptian Pilot Nevin Darwish will be the first Arab Egyptian female to be assigned flying the Airbus 380.

From the check-in staff and baggage handlers, to stewardesses and pilots, a total of 61 women from BA were involved with a London Heathrow to Glasgow flight on Monday.

Domestic airline Vistara has announced a special one-day sale to commemorate Women's Day.
