EPL: Mourinho ready to make big-money move for Barcelona's Umtiti

EPL: Mourinho ready to make big-money move for Barcelona's Umtiti

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to lure an FC Barcelona star to Manchester United, and apparently "calls" him personally on a regular basis.

Yet, at the same time the report says that his brother and agent Yannick Umtiti is also in regular contact with United officials to sound out a potential summer move to Old Trafford.

Umtiti have been regularly linked with the Red Devils over the past few months, and as per the report by Sport, the highly-rated defender could be headed towards Old Trafford come the summer transfer window.

The defender has been in excellent form for the Spanish League leaders, and United have watched him on a number of occasions already, with chief executive Ed Woodward also taking the trip to watch Barcelona's recent game against Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp.

Umtiti's deal with Barca is worth €4m (£3.5m) a year, but Sport claim that United are proposing a contract worth €9m (£8m) a season.

It is claimed Mourinho is letting him know of his love through France team-mates Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Barcelona wish for Umtiti to have committed his long-term future to them before he heads off to the World Cup in Russian Federation as part of Les Bleus' squad this summer, and Umtiti will certainly use United's interest to persuade Barca to hand him a wage hike.

The 24-year-old is said to have a release clause of just over £50m in his current deal, which Barca would like him to extend ahead of the World Cup.

La Blaugrana are prepared to hand Umtiti improved terms - complete with a new mammoth release clause fee - in an effort to put an end to any talk of the ex-Lyon starlet moving away.
