Falcons could be a trading partner with Seahawks for Michael Bennett

The interest in moving on from Bennett appears to be stemming from the chance to save almost $2.2 million in salary cap space next season while receiving around $5.2 million in dead money charges.

Michael Bennett seems to have caught the eye of one of the top contenders in the National Football Conference (NFC).

In the last several days, the Seattle Seahawks have reportedly made Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett an available asset in the trade market.

"There is a natural tie between Bennett and the Falcons".

The Falcons have inquired about a possible trade for Bennett due to his prior experience playing for coach Dan Quinn and team needs along the defensive line, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN. If they trade or cut him before June 1, the Seahawks would save about $2.2 million against the 2018 salary cap while incurring around $5.2 million in dead money charges. Seattle general manager John Schneider said last week at the NFL Combine the team wants to acquire some picks in the second and third rounds after having traded its own away in the Sheldon Richardson and Duane Brown trades.

Quinn coordinated the Seahawks top-ranked scoring defense in 2013 and 2014, helping lead the franchise to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances before taking over as Atlanta's new coach. A trade or release is most likely coming before March 18, which will be when the veteran defensive end is slated to receive a $3 million roster bonus.

Bennett racked up 40 combined tackles (25 solo), 8.5 sacks, and one pass defended in 16 games with the Seahawks last season.
