The judges unanimously voted to send Sussett to Hollywood, so this isn't the last we'll see of this American Idol hopeful.

American Idol is back on a new network and with new judges, and the fun and excitement are still fresh. Lorenzo and Turner were passed through to the next round on the show on Sunday, when the show's new season debuted.

American Idol first aired 16 years ago before some of this year's contestants were even born, and much of the two-hour premiere episodes focused on how this new generation grew up during the heyday of the show.

Don't get it twisted - Katy Perry is outstanding and everything you want in a judge. I wouldn't even call it a talent. The judges were having a good time, but not enough to give him a pass.

"I don't think you know who you are yet", she said after he finished his performance. Jones was thrilled to get a golden ticket. Before the reality stalwart officially kicks off its quest to crown the next idol, fans are treated to the most entertaining aspect of the series: the auditions. So far, the critique for those who get the ticket is all sugary sweet. "I think in the past there was some of that and maybe taking advantage of people..."

However, while dancing the 33-year-old Roar singer slipped and fell on the floor, revealing her undergarments, and her short dress didn't help.

"She's using the show as eHarmony", joked Bryan. "Come here, Benjamin. Come here right now!" she directed. They actually put her through. He sings a nice version of Donny Hathaway's "A Song for You".

More folks crash and burn after Autumn, including 22-year-old "Hank the Business Man" from Pittsburgh. His range is great and the judges are engaged. Luke approves of Katy's love because according to Luke, Trevor is a dreamboat. Katy flirts with Trevor, while Trevor gets all aw-shucks on us. I mean, maybe. William here loves the ladies and works his 9-to-5 selling lovely women's shoes.

"I remember wigging out in my family room". Now we're at a montage of rejections.

Bryan, a country superstar, simply stated he was saying "yes" to her advancement. For her audition, Michelle first sings in her native language. However, Garrett received a golden ticket. Let's see if she survives the group rounds.

Katy Perry is single and is definitely ready to mingle as was evident on Tuesday night. True. You might end up as Lil Sweet on a Dr. Pepper commercial - sorry Justin.

Next up, Thaddeus Johnson sang "Don't You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia. He ended up tipping the scales at 390 and decided to make a change after wanting to end his life. "A lot of people come in here with a lot of fear". "I was amazed how she didn't seem to be fazed by the fact that I was in a wheelchair". He is going to Hollywood. A cute montage of the support system that comes with the contestants.

This audition was more successful than Poppe's appearance on NBC's "The Voice". Could something edgy happen next time around, like Lionel and Luke actually disagreeing on a contestant's shot at moving on?

Of course to close out the competition, we need a heartwrenching story.

When David Francisco popped into the American Idol audition room, the judges didn't know what to expect after he admitted that he'd been hit by a auto and lost all function of his legs after he moved to Nashville to pursue his music dreams. He thought that his life, singing and relationships were over.

"I don't take anything for granted anymore", he shared. Katy starts crying and Lionel isn't far behind. Lionel gives David a hug and wisely points out, "If you lose your spirit, you lose everything".
