IndyCar and NBC Sports confirm new TV contract for 2019

The new broadcast package includes streaming rights to IndyCar races. As for NBC, the Indianapolis 500 falls in line with other major sports events the network covers. With the Verizon IndyCar Series inking an exclusive multi-year deal with NBC to have its races aired on the network and its NBCSN cable outlet starting in 2019, parting ways with one of its oldest partners was required.

The Indianapolis 500 also joins NBC's May-June "Championship Season". The programming includes practices, qualifying sessions, support races, Carb Day at Indy, and IndyCar championship celebrations.

"We're excited to have NBC Sports serve as the exclusive home of INDYCAR, which represents the most competitive open-wheel racing in the world,"Jon Miller, president of programming for NBC Sports and NBCSN, said in a statement". Miles said there is a rights fee that NBC will pay IndyCar for the deal and revenue-sharing opportunities related both to ad sales and NBC Sports Gold subscriptions.

Penske said NBC Sports will "invest in the future of the sport" at a time when the series has positive momentum.
