Interior Dept. Spending $139K To Upgrade Doors In Sec. Zinke's Office

The Interior Department reportedly spent $139,000 on construction for the agency labeled "Secretary's Door", according to records first reported by the Associated Press.

The AP's Michael Biesecker and Matthew Daley report that records show the Interior Department spent almost $139,000 a year ago for construction labeled on a work order as "Secretary's Door".

Records show the Maryland contractor hired for the job, Conquest Solutions LLC, has performed multiple renovations at federal buildings.

According to what the spokeswoman for Zinke told the Associated Press, the cost of doors was news to her and this work was requested by the career staffers as part of the modernisation of the building. "This is a ideal example of why the secretary believes we need to reform procurement processes", she said.

According to CNN, as it was reported in October, he had spent nearly $200,000 on his yearly travels.

A number of Trump Cabinet officials have been criticized for their spending habits.

Finally, he has also been accused of spending over $53,000 for a trio of helicopter rides, including one to go horseback riding with Vice President Mike Pence.

"This opens the door to more troubling questions about how Zinke is wasting taxpayer money", said Shripal Shah, a spokesperson for the Democratic group American Bridge, which first noted the contract, according to AP.

And Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson drew criticism for a $31,000 dining set that was ordered for his office.

Carson later asked for the order to be canceled.

On one hand Zinke's office purchased a door that cost thousands of dollars.

It is not new to be seeing Zinke spending the taxpayers'money like this.
