Mourinho hits back at 'worst ever' Premier League manager De Boer

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The former Dutch global had praised Rashford and said it was a "pity" that he plays for Mourinho, who only cares about results, and not a manager who would continue to play him even if he has a bad game or two.

Rashford was deadly at Old Trafford, grabbing both his goals within the first twenty minutes of action to set United up for smooth sailing for the rest of the match.

"Rashford is an English player and you want to give him time and he may make mistakes, but Mourinho is not like that, he wants results", Frank de Boer said.

Unsurprisingly, Mourinho has not taken too kindly to seeing his methods criticised and has hit back at De Boer, telling reporters: "I read something, some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier League, Frank de Boer saying it's not good for Rashford to have a coach like me".

"Tomorrow is a very hard match, playing against a team that didn't lose against Liverpool home or away [in the group stage], that drew in Liverpool and I say Liverpool because they are an example of a very good team in a big stadium with a big tradition".

De Boer lost all four of his Premier League games without scoring a goal before he was sacked by Palace in September.

The former Netherlands defender, who worked alongside Mourinho at Barcelona when the United manager was Louis van Gaal's assistant, didn't win any of his league games as Palace manager and his team didn't score a goal.

Maybe with him, he would learn how to lose. I try to give the best to the kid.

"Mourinho is not like that, he wants to get results".

Mourinho continued to play down expectations by maintaining that his team are not among the Champions League favourites, and disputed that going out tonight would be a disaster. He's a player, he's very young, he needs games, but he's so talented.

Mourinho did not hold back when asked about De Boer's comments during his news conference ahead of Tuesday's Champions League last 16, second leg tie against Sevilla.

"Does he play every match from the start?"

"I don't think we're candidates to win the competition. In the last eight you start smelling the semi-finals".

The Frenchman was absent during the part of Monday's training session observed by the media, but Mourinho said Pogba joined the workout after that and has not been completely ruled out.
