New players can not now join Sea of Thieves

Nearly three years after it was first announced, Rare's new co-op multiplayer pirate adventure Sea of Thieves is finally in players' hands.and somewhat predictably, it's neither the audacious home-run its fans were hoping for, not the utter trainwreck more cynical observers were perhaps expecting. It's no wonder the servers have been on fire ever since.

Instead of a bug-fixing download, as is traditional, Sea of Thieves' Day One Patch is an actual in-game eye-patch available for your character to wear. Rare official Twitter account informed "We've got A LOT of eager pirates playing Sea of Thieves right now and due to this some of you may experience issues".

This massive concurrency is causing some players to encounter access issues during peak times.

While the developer video posted below goes into more depth on current issues, the main issues cropping up are listed below along with current status.

For those playing and those joining we are continuing to work on improvements to the game in order to ensure the playing experience will be optimal.

Advice: Try matchmaking into a crew that is already out on an adventure, as you will join an in-progress session rather than going through the server matchmaking flow. One of those messages that players are coming across is saying that "Voyages Are Not Working".

The team are working on some updates serverside and hope to have things improved by the time peak hours begin tonight. It'll solve itself with time. The team stressed that once you're in the game, you should stay there; your rewards will be applied to your account eventually. Rare claims this is an issue of delay and that the rewards aren't gone entirely, while the issue of missing achievements appears to have the same problem. The Xbox One X's graphics power roughly correlates to the Radeon RX 580, or the GeForce GTX 1060 on the Nvidia side.

Rare also provided a maintenance schedule for Sea of Thieves.

Hopefully, folks running into connection issues will be able to log in soon and start raiding ships and killing chickens.
