New video reveals just how much Apple slows down old iPhones

Adding a notch to the iPhone X was necessary, in part, because of the phone's edge-to-edge organic LED screen.

So this year getting iPhone X clones at the MWC 2018 wasn't actually surprising. But the "notch" that houses the most important sensors like front camera and 3D sensors for Face ID does not compliment the overall design.

Fresh information shared by an industry insider reveals that Apple may ditch the notch design on the iPhones that will be arriving next year.

At the Mobile World Congress last week, some sources claimed that Apple was already working on the iPhone X's successor, the "iPhone X Plus". Hence, the ultimate full experience that Apple is reportedly planning for its 2019 iPhone may also inspire Android smartphone makers to launch similar looking phones.

As said before, LG G7's main highlight is the notch that seats atop the display to array front-camera along with other sensors. But Apple knows that most of its customers did not like the display notch.

ET News speculates Apple would seek to drill holes in the OLED panels, or use so-called Black Matrix areas within the displays. The publication did not mention the screen size and resolution of 2019 models as talks with display suppliers are still in early stages.

On the contrary, there have been many companies that are applying notch design to their Smartphones.

Users would be able to decide whether images take up the full width and length of the display, or to restrict images with a small bezel at the top and bottom of the front screen.

Even though the iPhone X remains the most popular model within the company's iPhone line-up, there have been reports that Apple in recent weeks has reduced iPhone X orders due to lower than anticipated demand. The recently unveiled ASUS ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z look quite similar to the iPhone X. Also, the upcoming phones like Huawei P20, P20 Pro, P20 Lite, OPPO R15, OPPO R15 Dream Mirror and OnePlus 6 are also expected to arrive with notch design.

Apple is also believed to be prepping three new iPhone models for 2018, several of which are expected to be featuring the notch.
