Patriots Re-Sign All-Pro Special Teamer Nate Ebner In Free Agency

Patriots Re-Sign All-Pro Special Teamer Nate Ebner In Free Agency

Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reported that Joe Thomas still hasn't informed the Browns of his plans for the 2018 season and the delay has the organization searching for a replacement.

First up, the Patriots. Pats will have a battle to hold on to Tom Brady's left tackle. The problem is Solder, at the age of 29, is only going to get one more crack at free agency.

As of Wednesday morning, just hours before the official start to free agency, the Giants and Houston Texans are considered the favorites to land Solder, with some reporting the Giants are offering upwards of $14 million per year. The Browns, as Volin notes, have a ton of money and cap space.

Only one of five players in history selected to the Pro Bowl in his first 10 seasons, Thomas had never missed a snap in his career before he got hurt while blocking on a running play against Tennessee on October 22.

This will be the second two-year pact Ebner and the Patriots have agreed to.

Drafted No. 17 overall by the Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft, Solder has been the starting left tackle for New England since the 2012 season.

Should the Texans go after one or both?

During an onstage interview Tuesday night at an awards show in downtown Cleveland, Thomas remained noncommittal when discussing his future - a decision that has kept the Browns in limbo.

For the Browns, this deal would be another investment in the offensive line after spending big on Joel Bitino (extension) and Kevin Zeitler/JC Tretter (free agency) past year.

The potential money along with the potential that the Browns have after signing Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry could be tempting for Solder, so he has many things to consider. It was believed he would come back and that's the indication the Browns are giving out. Thomas in January said doctors told him he would be cleared for football activities in June or July.

But the Browns look completely different this year and might actually have a chance to compete (?!?).
