Expectations in the Wholesale & Retail Trade sector have increased by seven percentage points compared to the same period previous year, while employers in the Finance, Insurance & Real Estate sector report an increase of four percentage points.

It is however a five per cent decrease from the first quarter outlook for 2018. Elsewhere, a steady increase in staffing levels is expected by restaurants and hotels sector employers, with an outlook of +12%, and by employers in two sectors with Outlooks of +11% - the manufacturing sector and the transport, storage and communication sector.

AG Rao, Group Managing Director at ManpowerGroup India, said, "Indian job seekers are likely to benefit from the positive labour market during the April-June period".

Modest hiring plans are reported in the mining and construction sector with an outlook of +7%, and in the transportation and utilities sector, where the outlook is +6%.

Employers surveyed in each of the nation's 100 largest metropolitan statistic areas expect to hire next quarter, reflecting the growing economy.

The latest data paints a picture of significant differences in hiring expectations across the country, both on a sector-by-sector basis and when compared regionally. A considerable decline of 14 percentage points is reported in the North, while Outlooks are 5 and 3 percentage points weaker in the South and the West, respectively. Hiring plans improve in five countries and territories year-over-year, decline in two and are unchanged in one.

Among the generally positive hiring trends expressed for the Asia-Pacific Region, the country that expressed the most caution was China (+8 percent), where companies have shown only a minor increase in optimism towards hiring over the past three consecutive quarters.

Sector comparisons Payroll gains are anticipated in nine of the 10 industry sectors during the coming quarter.

"The improved employment outlook in the Wholesale & Retail Trade sector is encouraging and suggests that businesses are confident consumer demand will hold up in 2018 as wages pressure builds in the economy", said Mr Fischer. Among the countries and territories featuring seasonally adjusted data, confidence is strongest in Taiwan, Japan, Hungary and the United States, while the weakest hiring prospects are reported in Italy, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

According to the survey released today by staffing firm ManpowerGroup India, workforce gains were expected across all four regions and seven industry sectors including services, finance, real estate, manufacturing, among others.
