Retired Army officer Peters quits analyst role for 'propaganda machine' Fox News

"Over my decade at Fox, I was long proud of the association", Peters wrote in an email that was distributed to colleagues at Fox News, and first reported by BuzzFeed News.

Fox News released a statement suggesting Peters was fishing for publicity: "Ralph Peters is entitled to his opinion despite the fact that he's choosing to use it as a weapon in order to gain attention". He gave Fox Business a thumbs-up for not stooping to the kind of biased reporting that according to him, Fox News was doing at present. A specialist in Russian intelligence, he'd been a regular commentator on the news circuit before signing an exclusive contract with Fox News in 2008.

Peters, who opined about military issues and worldwide policy on television and online, criticized the network's primetime lineup for, in his words, attacking the integrity of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and of special counsel Robert Mueller. The goal of this message to all of you is twofold:First, I must thank each of you for the cooperation and support you've shown me over the years. Second, I feel compelled to explain why I have to leave. "I swore to 'support and defend the Constitution, ' and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform", he reminded.

Peters said it appalled him that "hosts who made their reputations as super-patriots" now advance the agenda of Russian President Vladimir Putin by making light of Russian involvement in the 2016 USA presidential election.

The longtime analyst added that "as an intelligence professional, I can tell you that the Steele dossier rings true", referring to the series of memos written by British former intelligence officer Christopher Steele containing allegations of misconduct and collusion between the Trump campaign team and Russian Federation before and during the 2016 US presidential election.

"Despite increasingly pathetic denials, it turns out that the "nothing-burger" has been covered with Russian dressing all along", he added. The result is that we have an American president who is terrified of his counterpart in Moscow.

The network had an intramural debate of its own last week when news anchor Shepard Smith, who just renewed his contract, said in an interview with Time magazine that Fox's opinion hosts "don't really have rules" and can say whatever they want.

Anti-Trump views weren't entirely uncommon on Fox News during the campaign.

The retired Army colonel said he did not apply his criticisms to Fox Business, who he called "the grown-ups", and Fox's news reporters. So, to all of you: Thanks, and, as our president's favorite world leader would say, "Das vidanya".
