South Korean actor Jo Min-ki found dead after sexual assault accusations

52 year-old South Korean actor, Jo Min-ki (조민기), who was under investigation over a string of sexual misconduct allegations, was found dead on Friday, 9 March, in an apparent suicide.

The actor was found dead at his home in Seoul, according to news agency Yonhap and the Korea Times, who cited police.

The apartment is registered as his official place of residence.

Police are trying to determine the exact cause of death, believing he took his own life.

Police were investigating multiple claims that Jo sexually abused his students when he was a professor at Cheongju University in central South Korea.

His roles were mainly in television series, but he also appeared in a number of films. Though Jo Min Ki initially denied the allegations, actress Song Ha Neul and others came forward about his treatment of students, and he eventually apologized.

The #MeToo movement has spread widely in South Korea since January, when a female prosecutor publicly spoke out about alleged workplace mistreatment after she reported being groped by a senior male prosecutor at a funeral in 2010.

"Everything is my fault, and I am the one to blame", he said on February 27.

The actor was also edited out of TV drama Children of the Small God and replaced by Lee Jae Yong.
