Sridevi's mortal remains still in Dubai mortuary

The 54-year-old veteran actress passed away on Saturday in Dubai where she was attending a family wedding.

According to sources, Dubai Police have released the forensic report on Sridevi's death to her family and the Indian Consulate representative.

Two Dubai police officials speaking on condition of anonymity added that she was under the influence of alcohol.

"Dubai police assert that the case file was forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Dubai to take the necessary legal action in accordance with such cases".

Dubai Police called in Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor to a local police station for investigation. Soon, a Dubai newspaper rubbished the version, saying only a testimony was taken from him on Sunday morning. The report, citing accidental drowning as the cause of death, has a stamp of the "Ministry of Health UAE" and the director of preventive medicine, Dubai, Dr Sami Wadie.

Sanjay Kapoor, the brother-in-law of Sridevi, had confirmed the news of her sad demise and told Khaleej Times, "We are completely shocked". The causes of a cardiac arrest can be multiple. At least one relative had suggested a "heart attack" but Dubai police made no such mention.

Quoting an official, the Gulf News reported that traces of alcohol were found in the actress's body. The report said Boney discovered Sridevi unconscious in the bathtub, and that she was rushed to the hospital where she was declared "brought dead".

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Sridevi worked in India's regional Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam-language films before making her Bollywood debut in 1979. The couple spoke for 15 minutes after which Sridevi went to the washroom to get ready for dinner. With the passing of such a luminescent star then, it's perhaps no wonder that the grieving is universal.

Around 100 policemen were deployed near the building tonight and around 250 cops will be deployed tomorrow at the house where her body will be kept for paying final tribute to the departed soul, said a police official.

The actress' body was at the General Department of Forensic Evidence in Dubai since 2.30 am (Tuesday).

Mourners have gathered at Anil Kapoor's bungalow in Juhu, as they wait for Sridevi's mortal remains to return to Mumbai.

With a new twist in Bollywood actor Sridevi's death, investigators in Dubai have questioned hotel staff and those accompanying her including her husband Boney Kapoor.
