Suspected CMU shooter scheduled to be formally charged Tuesday

The shooting led to an hours-long manhunt that included more than 100 police officers, some heavily armed in camouflage uniforms, as panic spread across the campus.

Providing a timeline of the incident, Yeagley said Davis Jr. ran into the office of the CMU police officers Thursday in fear saying he believed someone was trying to hurt him. The shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m.at a residence hall at Central Michigan, which is about 70 miles north of Lansing. "But I can tell you for sure that the gun came from outside, in the parking lot, with (Davis Jr.) through the building", he said.

Central Michigan University police Chief Bill Yeagley said the gun used in the shooting belonged to Davis Sr. Bellwood police chief Jiminez Allen said Friday that Davis Sr. was a part-time officer on the force, calling it "a very hard time" for the Chicago suburb's department, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Davis is accused of shooting and killing his parents, Diva and James Davis Sr. of IL, around 9 a.m. Friday on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall in the Towers residence hall complex.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday but sources say, he is still in the hospital.

AP has since reported that the gun used by Davis was registered to his father.

The university identified the two dead as Davis' mother Diva Davis and father James Davis Sr., a part-time police officer in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood.

Yeagley did not say if the gun was Davis Sr.'s service weapon. "Something happened, but they don't know what", Hopper said. He was taken to an area hospital, where his parents picked him up the morning of the shooting.

The campus was placed on lockdown Friday.

"The mother said she too was concerned this could be drugs", he said. Furthermore, Hopper said reports Davis Jr. did not live with his parents are also untrue. "There were thousands of people who were sheltering in place yesterday and they will be dealing with this for the rest of their lives", he said.
