Third Nor'Easter Brings Power Outages to the Northeast

Video of a Boston lawyer dressed as Queen Elsa from the animated movie "Frozen" helping a Boston police vehicle stuck in the snow is being shared widely on social media.

Snow fell in New York City this morning but it's already come to an end. A series of storm fronts will move through the region for the next five days, giving us a chance of rain and/or snow in the valley with significant snow expected up in the mountains.

Blizzard conditions were confirmed in MA with winds gusting to 130 kilometres per hour in East Falmouth and almost as high on Nantucket Island, where 99 percent of the population was without power on Monday night.

Maine, Rhode Island and CT are also dealing with outages in the storm's wake.

Blizzard conditions are possible and power outages are a threat for parts of Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire and ME, which are under the Winter Storm Watch from Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon, he said.

Uxbridge, Massachusetts, was the leader with almost 28 inches.

In Connecticut, the top snowfall goes to Norwich, where more than 20 inches of snow have fallen so far.

Mayor Marty Walsh said Tuesday no decision has been made yet, but at minimum, the parade route may be altered depending on the snowfall.

At the Yotel hotel in Boston's Seaport neighbourhood, guests were busy rescheduling their flights over breakfast or, in the case of 80-year-old Roy Zaloom of Ramsey, New Jersey, preparing for a morning drive back home with his family. The parade is scheduled for Sunday.

Some areas of New England could see up to 2 feet of snow over the next 24 hours.

In New Hampshire, as much as 14 inches of snow is forecast, and the storm is wreaking havoc with the age-old town meeting tradition.

Vernon Township called off classes for a 12th time Tuesday after a snow storm dropped approximately 6 inches (15 centimeters) of snow across northwestern New Jersey.

"I think it may be one of the last ones so I'm out here appreciating it", Gesler said.

Vernon Mayor Harry Shortway says a lot of people are upset about rescinded breaks, "but what are you going to do". "Six more weeks of winter, and probably then some".

A nor'easter that could bring blizzard conditions and almost 2 feet of snow to some areas of New England quickly intensified Tuesday morning, covering highways with snow and knocking out power to tens of thousands.

The National Weather Service says Deerfield received almost 29 inches and Middleton received 28 inches in New Hampshire. Burrillville, Rhode Island, and Kezar Falls, Maine, both got 20 inches. Gusts approached 70 miles per hour on Cape Cod.

The storm, qualified as a "bomb cyclone", punished MA and Rhode Island particularly hard.

Utility companies say they'll have extra crews out on Wednesday to restore power to those still without it.
