Tillerson, Lavrov fail to meet in Ethiopia

Moscow has always supported efforts to continue the dialogue on strategic stability with Washington, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday when commenting the call of several USA senators for talks with Russia on strategic issues and extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (New START Treaty), TASS reports.

Despite Russian diplomats insisting they sent a request for the meeting, USA officials repeatedly denied receiving such a request.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Embassy in Washington DC offered to send a formal invitation for a meeting between the Russian and US foreign ministers via Twitter, after the US State Department had denied receiving it by more conventional means.
