Trey Burton to Sign 4-Year Bears Contract Worth $32 Million

Burton has agreed to a four-year contract worth up to $32 million, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported.

In addition to the report from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, 247Sports also has information on the terms of the deal.

Acquired initially by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2014, Burton finished with 63 catches, 629 yards, and seven touchdowns in four years in Philadelphia. Last season he caught fewer passes - 23 receptions for 238 yards - but hauled in 5 touchdown passes.

He'll also find himself on Super Bowl highlight reels for years to come after throwing a touchdown pass to Eagles quarterback Nick Foles on a perfectly executed trick play during the team's 41-33 championship triumph over the New England Patriots. He made five grabs for 71 yards and two touchdowns with Ertz sidelined due to a concussion, flashing his playmaking upside when thrust into a bigger role. An average annual value of $8 million would place him among the highest-paid tight ends in football.

The undersized (6-foot-3, 235-pound) Burton projects as a "move" tight end for the Bears, where he will be much more of pass catcher than a blocker. Burton joined the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2014, carved out a role on special teams and then blossomed as a risky offensive playmaker the past two seasons under coach Doug Pederson.

Burton began his college career at Florida as a quarterback, and he played wide receiver, fullback and eventually tight end.
