Trump must face accusations of 'Apprentice' contestant

As busy as Donald Trump is being president, he can't avoid a lawsuit by a former "Apprentice" contestant who says he defamed her by calling her a liar after she accused him of sexual assault, a judge said.

Ms Zervos said Mr Trump kissed her against her will at a 2007 meeting in his NY office, and later groped her in a Beverly Hills hotel at a meeting about a possible job.

Supreme Court Justice Jennifer Schecter ruled Tuesday that Summer Zervos' lawsuit can proceed.

She rejected Trump's claim that he was immune from being sued, finding "absolutely no authority" to dismiss litigation related "purely to unofficial conduct" exclusively because he occupied the White House.

Also on Tuesday, a former Playboy model who claims she had a 10-month affair with Trump starting in 2006 sued the company that owns the National Enquirer to void a 2016 contract requiring her not to talk about the encounter.

Earlier this week, a law firm representing Mr Trump and the corporation that paid Ms Daniels said in a court filing it was seeking at least $US20 million in damages for multiple violations of the non-disclosure agreement.

Neither the White House nor Trump's personal attorneys responded to requests for comment.

John Diamond, a professor at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, said Trump would have to testify under oath if he has to defend himself.

Zervos filed her defamation suit at the start of 2017, three days before Donald Trump assumed the presidency, alleging that he made defamatory statements about her on the campaign trail where he repeatedly accused her and other women who made similar allegations of lying. The $130,000 hush agreement was meant to prevent her from speaking out about an alleged affair that began, Daniels said, at a celebrity golf tournament in 2006.

Kasowitz said he would appeal. Cohen has acknowledged arranging to pay to silence another woman, porn star Stormy Daniels.

"False allegations have been levied against me and I look forward to responding to them in an appropriate forum", he told Reuters. And the parties can then ask the state's highest court in Albany to review the case, a challenge that could take as long as a year to complete. She said she was tricked into signing it, that it was meant to illegally influence the election and because it violates public policy against using threats of legal action to get someone to stay silent on issues of public concern. At a presidential debate, Trump denied ever doing the things he described in the recording, which some of his accusers said prompted them to come forward.
