Trump say many lawyers - seeking 'fame & fortune' - want to work for him

President Donald Trump's attorney Jay Sekulow announced Sunday that Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing will not join Trump's legal team for the Russian Federation probe.

Jay Sekulow, one of Trump's attorneys, said husband-and-wife legal team Joe diGenova (l.) and Victoria Toensing (r.) won't represent the President in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. "However, those conflicts do not prevent them from assisting the president in other legal matters", Mr. Sekulow said.

The president insisted that "many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russian Federation case", and that reports of flux on his team were a "Fake News narrative".

Not that diGenova may not assist Trump on other matters. "The President looks forward to working with them", Sekulow said in a statement.

The sources say the president had concerns about the chemistry between him and the couple. DiGenova, who provided the statement to The Associated Press, declined to answer additional questions about the nature of his and Toensing's representation of the president.

The lawyer, Joseph diGenova, has often vehemently defended the president on Fox News and cast the Mueller probe as a conspiracy against him. One of them is Sam Clovis, former national co-chair of Trump's campaign and a White House adviser. DiGenova, a former US attorney, has been a fierce defender of Trump on television and accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of trying to "frame" the president for nonexistent crimes.

Toensing has represented Mark Corallo, a former spokesman for Trump's legal team, including his meeting with investigators on Mueller's team. Mueller is leading the investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 president election.

Dowd purportedly resigned over Trump's recent public attacks on Mueller and the president's desire to be interviewed directly by Mueller. One source said the President liked the pair's message, but was not convinced they were right for the legal jobs. Trump congratulated Putin on his re-election last week and failed to bring up the USA election meddling or the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil during the conversation.

Yet the commander-in-chief has signaled he wants to sit down with Mueller's investigation.
