Trump's military parade: Period uniforms and aircraft, but no tanks

The planned military parade "will focus on the contributions of our Veterans throughout the history of the U.S. Military, starting from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to today, with an emphasis on the price of freedom".

The details of President Donald Trump's military parade have leaked, and from the look of the things, it doesn't seem like we are going to have tanks rolling through the capital.

The parade route will run from the White House to the Capitol. As the invited guest of French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump watched enthusiastically from a reviewing stand as the French military showcased its tanks and fighter jets, including many USA -made planes, along the famed Champs-Elysees.

As planning continues, the memo gave no more details on the type of weaponry to be featured in the parade.

The Pentagon is believed to have taken into consideration the damage that military tanks would have caused to local infrastructure.

Last month Trump asked the Pentagon to explore a parade in celebration of American troops, after the Republican president marveled at the Bastille Day military parade he attended in Paris previous year. Just one M1 Abrams tank, for example, weighs almost 137,000 pounds.

"The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France", a military official reportedly said. "Usually when you see big military parades, it's celebrating an end of a war, and I don't think that's been announced". The parade will also include a "heavy air component", the memo said, with military planes flying overhead at the end of the parade.

Trump decided he wanted to have a military parade in Washington after he attended France's Bastille Day celebration past year in Paris.

"President Trump is incredibly supportive of America's great service members who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe".

Trump praised the French display months later when he and Macron met in NY, saying, "We're going to have to try and top it". "So what's really in it for the American people?"
