World dignitaries converge at ISA summit

The Summit, which is being attended by 25 Heads of State and Government, will provide a dedicated platform for co-operation amongst solar resource rich countries, aimed at realising "the common goals of increasing the use of solar energy in meeting the energy needs of ISA member countries in a safe, convenient, affordable, equitable and sustainable manner".

India and France also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and the National Solar Energy Institute (INES) in France.

Governor-General of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove will arive arrive here on Saturday on a five-day visit to India, during which he will attend the founding conference of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) on Sunday, the Australian High Commission here said in statement on Friday.

The aim of the summit is to deliberate on a finance mechanism for the promotion of solar energy in member countries, crowd-funding and technology transfer.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is working for deployment of over 1000 GW of solar energy and mobilising more than 1000 billion dollar into solar energy by the year 2030; and to achieve the target it has signed Joint financial partnership.

Since a bulk of the countries who are part of the ISA are from Africa, India has made a decision to use about $2 billion of the $10 billion line of credit promised to Africa for renewable energy projects in these countries.

The French President thanked the Indian Prime Minister for India's support to the initiative to work on a global pact for the environment, the statement said.

During his stay in Japan, President Sirisena is scheduled to have an Imperial Audience with His Majesty, Emperor Akihito on 13th of March, and on the next day, he will meet Prime Minister Abe for summit talks. International Solar Alliance brings together 121 countries that fall between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn to give a push to solar power generation.
