Apple warns employees: Leaking iPhone info can land you in jail

Apple warns employees: Leaking iPhone info can land you in jail

Ironically, this confidential internal memo leaked. In 2016, Google fired an employee after the person shared internal posts criticizing an executive. It's unclear when it was posted.

Sources from multiple Apple Stores have tipped off 9to5Mac with word that in addition to AppleCare employees, external skilled labor has been brought on to cope with incoming jobs. In 2017, Apple caught 29 leakers.

Not surprisingly, Gurman was also first to report on the leak of the memo, which is reprinted in full below.

The Apple logo is displayed on the exterior of an Apple Store on February 1, 2018, in San Francisco.

In addition to not-so-subtly threatening its own employees with arrest, Apple warns them of fake friends in the press.

Apple has a workforce of 135,000, and one of the biggest and most convoluted supply chains in the business, so clamping down on leaks is going to be hard.

The use of outsiders is a premiere for Apple but it was the last resort the company appealed to in order to fulfill the massive iPhone battery replacement requests coming for clients who are unhappy with their Apple devices' performances. Last year, Apple claimed to have busted 29 leakers, 12 of whom were arrested. In a separate incident, an employee who leaked the final version of an unreleased version of iOS, its mobile operating system, was found within days and fired.

An internal memo warning Apple employees that leaking information could result in legal action and criminal charges has, rather predictably, been leaked. He also said the CEOs approached Apple to find a middle ground for the case by inking a licensing deal, but the USA firm has rejected the offer.

Apple has always cultivated a culture of confidentially about its work, as a means of maintaining a competitive advantage over the competition. Global Security has worked hand-in-hand with suppliers to prevent theft of Apple's intellectual property as well as to identify individuals who try to exceed their access.

The good news for those who think iPhone prices are out of control is that UBS also predicts that Apple will ensure a constant influx of new customers by further reducing prices at the bottom of the range. There have been some reports to suggest that Apple could make the phones slightly cheaper this year, but apparently that will not be the case. "That's a reasonable goal, but talking about the number of employees you've had arrested seems like an over-the-top scare tactic". Previous year they fired another employee for leaking details to 9to5mac. It's signature press event formula, honed by Steve Jobs, relies on an element of surprise.

In many cases, leakers don't set out to leak.
