BJP ministers in J&K asked to resign; reshuffle on cards

Having faced embarrassment on the rape-murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua district and fall of its graph amidst allegations of its ministers having failed to watch interests of the Jammu region, all nine BJP ministers tonight submitted their resignation from the council of ministers headed by Mehbooba Mufti.

Mehbooba, who received the resignation of the two ministers from BJP state chief Sat Sharma on April 15, had immediately accepted and forwarded the same to the Governor for completing the procedural formalities.

Koul blamed the opposition political parties and anti-nationals for creating the present antagonistic atmosphere in the country against BJP. But ANI quoted sources in the state to report that the move was merely a reshuffle. "We have not done anything wrong", Singh said.

Madhav, who is the party's General Secretary and incharge of the State, also said that the State government was told to withdraw the directive of the tribal affairs department on encroachments by nomads in forest land.

Sources told GNS said that while there was no threat to PDP-BJP government, the resignation will allow the party to induct fresh faces and retain previous ones who are already in the government based on their performance. According to the sources in the BJP, the decision was taken at a core group meeting, chaired by party Vice President Avinash Rai Khanna, at the party headquarters here. This would not affect the continuation of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, added sources.

At the same time, the BJP has only six including Deputy Chief Minister as cabinet ministers even as portfolios held by Chandar Prakash Ganga and Lal Singh were assigned to Dr Nirmal Singh.

The tone of Singh was completely different from his speech at the March rally in Kathua where he had demanded a CBI probe accusing the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police of arresting people without any proof.
