Facebook adds AR drawing and Instagram's Boomerang to Stories

Facebook adds AR drawing and Instagram's Boomerang to Stories

AR drawing allows you to draw 3D images with AR on the real world.

Stories section is available not only on Facebook, the same Stories section which was first available on Snapchat is now available on Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.

Facebook has just added Instagram's Boomerang feature in its Stories feature allowing users to create looping GIFs.

The other new addition is what Facebook calls "3D drawing" and is based on augmented reality. People can soon draw scribbles before or during recording and then move the camera around to see the markings stay in place.

Facebook has launched two new camera modes for its Stories feature. Further, the reports from web suggest that the technology behind the AR feature can also sense corners and objects in space, and can also detect walls and tables. At the moment the wrapping functionality only works in optimal lighting conditions, when the object recognition algorithm detects the presence with assurance. This, in turn, allows a user to wrap his/her art on the objects which are visible in the camera feed.

Such a tool would make it easier for people to move to competing photo social networks, much like Facebook's own Download Your Information tool, which has been touted as a way to #DeleteFacebook.

The report also pointed out that AR drawing will be known as "3D drawing" and will roll out for Facebook users in coming weeks. It is also making users post to Stories by default when they use Facebook Camera.

For the uninformed, Boomerang is a feature that loops videos back and forwards (hence the name) and have proven very popular with users of Instagram. That feature has not been updated yet and it is now getting polished with a whole new look.

If we talk about this particular Stories feature on Facebook, it has not been successful as Instagram or Snapchat.
