Facebook data leak increases to 87 million users

"I thought, 'fine, if Facebook doesn't want my money, they don't have to.' I asked what my Facebook audience thought of this and that's when I got a lot of feedback".

But, even more insane is that people are doing this voluntarily.

"Maybe they will find ways to mitigate the changes later", watering them down after the controversy blows over, said the Democrat, who asked not to be named.

Facebook will now offer financial rewards to people who report bugs and leaks in the platform, said Collin Greene, the company's head of Product Security, in an official blog post. They did this by creating a quiz app. And both of them are significant and should be considered so if we are make any headway. It isn't as if hackers tried to penetrate your local hospital to steal your private health information. They didn't hack anything.

Facebook has announced it would notify 87 million of its subscribers if Cambridge Analytica grabbed their data. Either way, this third party selling wasn't supposed to happen. I don't need a degree in economics to know that the financial industry is full of unsavory practices that hurt the average consumer, the same way that I don't need to understand the technical underpinnings of Facebook's complicated black box to know that the business strategy is fundamentally flawed. I've since learned this means I'm shown content targeted for black communities, and, until recently, may have been excluded from content because of my "affinity".

"It's quite possible that we made a mistake and we'll follow up afterwards", Zuckerberg said. I am not saying that Mark Zuckerberg and his cohort intentionally designed a scheme to trick users into handing over tons of personal data for the purposes of ad targeting.

First, the data was not highly sensitive. A social media network, like Facebook, needs to have access to users' browsing behaviour to enhance their timeline experience. Sure. Could it have turned someone into #MAGA-man? No. They want to place newspaper ads in certain geographic areas based on known or harvested demographics. If you're viewing this online, there's likely a button nearby that would allow you to quickly share it with your Facebook community.

You should also head to https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences and adjust these preferences accordingly.

Let's face it, Facebook was wildly irresponsible with its handling of the personal information of tens of millions of its customers. Sometimes the information is invited.

People often don't see worth in what they get for free. "You can go back home, spend $10 million on lobbyists and fight us, or you can go back home and help us solve this problem".

Elsewhere, a prominent Democratic digital ad consultant notes that Facebook hasn't reached out directly to communicate any of the changes it's making - whether by phone, email or Facebook - despite the fact he spent more than $1 million on Facebook ads a year ago. It includes my profile, which is already public and available for anyone to see (even the Russians), my birthday (Aug. 11), the pages I have liked and the city in which I live. Did Facebook lead users to believe information couldn't be gathered and used this way? The people I've declined as friends (and when) were there too, and the names and dates of those whose requests I accepted and later removed (apologies to my high school classmates; it seemed a good idea to link up at the time, but after reflection, not so much).
