Facebook suspends Canadian data analytics firm over data scandal

Facebook suspends Canadian data analytics firm over data scandal

It was reported on Thursday evening that Mark Zuckerberg and the other top Facebook executives could delete old messages on Messenger, a feature not available to anyone else.

Facebook said on Friday that it had suspended Canadian political consultancy AggregateIQ from its platform after reports that the data firm may have improperly had access to the personal data of Facebook users.

"We're committed to getting this done in time for the critical months before the 2018 elections".

Zuckerberg assures that in order to require verification for all of these pages and advertisers, Facebook will hire thousands of more people.

"We didn't take a broad enough view of what our responsibility is and that was a huge mistake", Zuckerberg told reporters on Wednesday. This may take some time.

Facebook did not inform its users publicly or privately.

The Zuckerberg-owned company also added that they have invested in artificial intelligence with a robust reporting mechanism.

An IANS report quoted Facebook as saying, "After Sony Pictures' emails were hacked in 2014 we made a number of changes to protect our executives' communications. When the timer runs out, the message would disappear from both their and the recipients' inboxes".

Moreover, the social media giant has also said that it will no longer retract any more messages sent by Mark from the recipients' inboxes until this "Unsend" feature is released for all the users. While the company's terms of service do not specify anything against deleting messages, the act has been criticized as a breach of trust.

Facebook announced this week that more than almost 45,000 people in Ireland were affected by the recent data breach.

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said a few advertisers have paused spending as they wait for the company to answer questions on user privacy.

On its website, AggregateIQ wrote that "it has never been a part of Cambridge Analytica or entered into a contract with the latter", insisting the company complies with all "regulatory requirements" everywhere it works. The changes come on the heels of a bad year for the social media company after revelations that user data was given to outside parties, and used Russian-based internet trolls were allowed to advertise during the 2016 election.

While initially it was assumed that the London-based consultancy gained access to "only" 50 million accounts, for political targeting and psychological profiling, including during the 2016 United States election campaign, on Wednesday Facebook revealed that Cambridge Analytica harvested data from 87 million people, including 71 million Americans. "There are 70 million small businesses around the world who use Facebook for free on a monthly basis, 7 million of them are paying customers".

"We stop those messages from going through".

He was informed that their systems had blocked attempts to send inflammatory Messenger instant messages about ethnic cleansing in Myanmar. The company said earlier this week that it scans content in the Messenger app to track abuse.
