Father of Reported Missing Child Arrested, Charged with Homicide

Joseph Ray Daniels, the father of Joseph "Joe Clyde" Daniels, was arrested on Saturday after he admitted to killing the 5-year-old. Daniels, 29, was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly killed his son on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, authorities said during a press conference on Saturday.

Bledsoe and Locke described the news as "devastating" and "profoundly disappointing", but they thanked the volunteers and members of the community who helped look for Joe Clyde.

Friendship Baptist Church, which served as a staging area for the search effort, will observe five minutes of silence Sunday ahead of special prayer service in Joe Clyde's memory.

TBI and the Dickson County Sheriff's Office say Joseph Ray Daniels confessed, but they could not go into detail about that confession due to the ongoing investigation. "We are still there, we are still on scene and we are going to be there and we are going to get a recovery, bring resolve to this", said Bledsoe.

Joseph Ray, 28, was arrested and booked into Dickson County Jail just before 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities searched for the boy for three days this week after he was reported missing. An Endangered Child Alert was issued by the TBI on Wednesday morning. A witness had reported seeing him walking near Garners Creek Road, investigators told the paper. After searching their home and property for almost an hour, they called 911 just before 6:30 a.m.to report the boy missing. Law enforcement officers and rescue crews began an exhaustive search near his home. He said he was afraid his son was "lonely, tired, scared and confused".

According to the Tennessean, Joe Clyde, who was non-verbal, had a history of wandering away from his family's rural property, about 25 miles southwest of Nashville, in the past. They said he wandered away in his pajamas.

Joe dwelt together with his mother and father and 2 sisters, 8 and 3. The Department of Children's Services is investigating.
