Firing at Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan's residence in Lahore

According to the Supreme Court's PRO, Justice Ijazul Ahsan's residence was targeted twice - first at 4:30am and then 9:00am on Sunday. The chief justice is said to be overseeing the situation himself.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan's house came under attack as multiple gunshots were fired at his residence two times.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, condemning the incident, demanded that the government should probe it and bring the culprits to justice.

Similarly, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took the notice of the incident and ordered the inspector general to present the report and bring the culprits to the book. He said that additional security has been provided to the Supreme Court judge.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief retired Gen Pervez Musharraf, and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri also condemned the incident.

A forensic team has also reached the scene to collect evidence while ballistic experts are called in to determine the nature of fire. A 9mm shell was found from the house and a crack made by the bullet was spotted at the kitchen window.

"Lawyers of the whole country are standing with the Supreme Court judges", SCBA Secretary Safdar Tarar said in a statement, while LHCBA President Anwarul Haq said the lawyers were soldiers of the SC judges.

The top leadership of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), including former president Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto and Faryal Talpur, also released the statements of condemnation over the attack.

The cowardly gun attack on the house of Supreme Court's Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan raked in support for the judge from Pakistan's politicians and army on Sunday.

Justice Ijaz was one of the judges who announced the verdict of disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Panama Leaks case. He was part of the bench which disqualified Nawaz in the Panama Papers case past year.

He is now the monitoring judge to supervise and monitor the implementation of the Panamagate case verdict and oversee the ongoing proceedings by the NAB and accountability courts against the Sharif family members and Ishaq Dar.
