Kwara Governor offers N5 million for information on Offa robbery masterminds

A policeman identified as Pelemo, who was expected to retire in a few months, and a pregnant policewoman, were among the people killed at the station.

The death toll from the robbery attack in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Thursday, may have risen to at least 30.

They reportedly first approached the Offa Divisional Police Station on entering the ancient town, killing the policemen on duty, among other people at the station, before raiding the commercial banks and killing people by shooting them on the head. The armed robbers were said to have broke bank vaults and made away with several millions of naira. "We will stop at nothing to ensure that all the suspects are arrested".

He said the police have recovered seven vehicles abandoned by the suspects in the outskirts of the town, exhibits he said would form a part of detectives' probe into the attack.

Speaking when he visited the victims at the hospital on Friday, the governor, who had ordered that the victims be moved from Offa to Ilorin for better medical care, had, on his Facebook page, directed health services in the state to rapidly deploy emergency services to treat those injured in the attack.

Lawan said five banks and one finance house were attacked by the robbers.

Channels Television gathered that the gunmen numbering about 30 arrived the town in seven vehicles and stationed themselves in each of the banks around 4:30 pm. One of them was arrested at Igosun road and six others at different locations in Offa.

The town had been the focus of robbery attacks in the past.

Saraki, in his Facebook post, described the robbery incident as "a despicable act committed by cruel individuals".

Make no mistake, there will never be any valid grounds or rationale behind such violence that has left many families without their loved ones - and one more community in grief and shock.

"My prayers and support will continue to be extended to all the affected families, and we will remain relentless until everyone who planned or carried out this attack faces the full wrath of the law", the President of the Senate said.

Saraki also called on members of the public to collaborate with the government to prevent a reoccurrence of the ugly incident.
