Michael Avenatti Just Went Nuclear on 'Radioactive' Michael Cohen

Michael Avenatti Just Went Nuclear on 'Radioactive' Michael Cohen

"Anyone that had any contact with this man in the last 20 years should be very concerned about what secrets of theirs are within these documents", he said, referring to documents obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a series of raids last week on Cohen's home, office, and hotel room.

The raids were based partly on a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller who is investigating possible collusion between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation, according to court filings.

Lawyers for Cohen and Trump want to be allowed to decide which items seized from his home and office are protected by attorney-client privilege before criminal prosecutors see them.

The Justice Department says Cohen is being investigated for criminal conduct "that largely centres on his personal business dealings".

In a court filing on Monday before the hearing, lawyers for Cohen argued that the government seized "documents and data regarding topics and issues that have nothing to do with the probable cause upon which the search warrant was granted in the first place".

Prosecutors have asked that the documents be reviewed for attorney-client privilege by a "filter team" of lawyers within their own office, who would be walled off from the main prosecution team.

Cohen's attorneys said in a filing that Cohen had represented three clients in the past year, including Trump and Elliott Broidy, a Republican fundraiser.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A longtime personal lawyer for President Donald Trump is expected to appear Monday in Manhattan federal court as he seeks an order limiting federal prosecutors' ability to review documents seized in raids on his home and office last week. Stormy Daniels, an adult-film actress, also attended the hearing.

Earlier Monday, a federal judge ordered the release of the name of Cohen's mystery third client: Hannity. His lawyer in the matter, Joanna Hendon, did not respond to questions from Newsweek outside the courthouse on Friday and Monday.

But in the background, Cohen also had to contend with Daniels' efforts to keep attention on her story, relating to what she says is a past affair with Trump.

The lawyers wrote in a court filing Monday that the raids a week ago to gather evidence from attorney Michael Cohen were "completely unprecedented". Neither addressed the court during the hearing, and they had to sit on folding chairs surrounded by reporters toward the back.

Stephen Ryan, a lawyer for Cohen, drew gasps and laughter from the public gallery when he named Hannity as the client.

It was not immediately clear what legal work Cohen provided Hannity.

Daniels provided comment to reporters as well, saying Cohen as "for years" acted "like he is above the law" and has "openly referred to himself as Mr. Trump's fixer". Cohen apparently threatened legal action and the magazine backed down, according to the report.
