MilSpouse Makes the Cut and Joins the American Idol Top 14

MilSpouse Makes the Cut and Joins the American Idol Top 14

Ada Vox is next and she's paired with the incredible Lea Michele. During a stage rehearsal, Maddie couldn't quite get her nerves under control, but her performance for the judges went off without a hitch.

Sadly, though, she has a case of constantly putting style over substance, and radio host and talent guru Bobby Bones tried to help her with interpersonal connections. They were so good that judge Lionel Richie couldn't keep quiet during the performance.

Ron Bultongez sings "Someone to You" with Banners. Who knows if that is even possible, but Katy Perry said she could see the "Stardust" floating around the singer. Still, Katy tells the contestant, "I've never seen anyone pull off lime green leather trousers!"

Yes, this is the song that always plays during American Idol. Ron has so much fun with the performance.

Louis Virtel, who has been recapping the show for NY Mag, wrote: "Here's what happened when this performance started: I pushed my laptop to the edge of my desk, looked skyward, and let this Broadway bomb of endorphins, sky-high ambition, and queer dream-making just pulverize me. That song caught me up with a little artistry thing that you got going on", said Luke.

Trivia time: Banners' dad is Grammy victor Ken Nelson, who produced some of Coldplay's biggest hits, including "Yellow", "Clocks" and "Fix You".

The final performance features Effie Passero and Cam. Lionel commended her for "finding her center", while Katy advised her to find a combination of center and swagger. Lionel tells Marcio, "It was a spiritual moment, my friend". She led her fellow judges right up to the stage for a lasting hug of the young dad, unable to contain his tears. I honestly felt like I was watching an ACM performance with the two of them. Next to Allen Stone and Marcio, it's one of the best performances of the evening.

Garrett Jacobs performed Shawn Mendes' "Treat You Better".

Mara Justine showed her vulnerable side with Rachel Platten on "Fight Song". Lionel Richie noticed that he was playing to the ladies, but that meant that he was "concentrating the other way" rather than on singing.
