Minnesota prosecutors plan announcement on Prince death

Six days before Prince died, he also fell ill and passed out on his private plane while returning to Minneapolis from performing in Atlanta, where he had told his audiences he had been feeling "under the weather".

Outfits and instruments by late pop icon Prince, who was known for his distinct and unique style, will go under the hammer in NY next month. Kornfeld has championed the use of buprenorphine, a drug that often is used to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings from opiate addiction. Some of the bottles were prescribed to Prince's longtime friend, Kirk Johnson, which Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg - a physician Prince saw before his death - claimed was done to protect Prince's privacy.

Numerous items including stereo equipment came out of Paisley Park, the reclusive star's studio and headquarters that has since been opened for paid tours.

A laboratory report obtained by The Associated Press notes that one of the pills found in a prescription bottle with Johnson's name contained oxycodone.

Following Prince's death, authorities announced they were investigating the source of the drugs the singer ingested that caused his death. Because Kornfeld couldn't immediately travel to Minnesota, he sent his son Andrew in his place.

Prince's death at 57 sparked a national outpouring of grief, as well as a joint county and federal investigation. The day after Prince was found dead, Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said investigators would "leave no stone unturned".

Nearly two years to the day after Prince died, officials in Carver County, Minnesota will announce Thursday whether anyone will face charges in the music legend's death.

The decision on state charges was up to Carver County Attorney Mark Metz, who was first elected in 2010.
