NYSC loses 3 corps members, 23 to repeat service in Lagos

Tambuwal gave the advice Thursday at the passing out ceremony of Batch A stream 1 corps members in Sokoto.

The ceremony, the first to be observed in five years in the state, due to the prevailing security challenges there, according to Markson, testified to the commitments of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and security agencies towards ensuring that Gombe State remains peaceful.

Further speaking on the issues, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Bello Ballama, noted that the idea was also to boast skill acquisition of the corps members through the activities that would engage them in various categories of farming and crop production.

Momoh said that the successful corps members contributed their quotas to the overall development of Nigeria through their primary assignments and various community development services.

The coordinator however, implored them to be committed to a lifelong service of rebuilding Nigeria as well as make use of their skills, intellect and development to better the lives of people around them.

The coordinator said three corps members received the prestigious 'NYSC State Honors Award'.

He promised to provide additional accommodation to the scheme in the state that would house more than 2,000 corps members.

He said a total of 1, 790 corps members passed out after a year national service to the nation, adding that eight corps members would serve an extension for various offences.

"However, our country is getting better, security has improved, that is why the NYSC chose to have ceremonial passing out parade for the 2017 Batch "A" Stream One Corps Members".

"On a sad note, we lost three corps members of this batch to the cold hands of death".

The NYSC accused them of absconding from their service-year programme and would repeat it whenever they presented themselves to the authority.

The Governor represented by his Special Adviser on Youth Development and Chairman, Katsina NYSC Governing Board, Alhaji Ibrahim Khalil Aminu, said the government act is to encourage other serving corps members to step up effort in leaving indelible marks in the communities where they served.

Ahmed advised the corps members to look inward and bring to use all the various skills they were taught with the aim of becoming employers of labour, rather than seeking white collar jobs that were not available.
