Palestinian Journalist Fatally Shot While Covering Gaza Protest

Haaretz said the Israeli army is using live fire because it fears a massive breach of the aging Gaza fence.

This included 10 who arrived at a field hospital set up near the border community of Khuzaa, in one of five tent camps for protesters.

In all, 22 Palestinians were killed in Gaza over the past week, among them 16 involved in last Friday's protests, according to Gaza health officials.

For Hamas, it's perhaps the last chance to break a border blockade enforced by Israel and Egypt since 2007, without having to succumb to demands that it disarm.

The IDF denied deliberately targeting journalists and said it was investigating reports that reporters had been injured by Israeli fire.

Palestinians say protesters were fired on while posing no threat to soldiers.

Over more than a week, tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered near Israel's fortified border fence with the stated aim of demanding to return to lands their families lost in the 1948 war that led to Israel's founding.

"There are no naive people in the Gaza Strip", Lieberman told Israel's public radio.

The group of people could be seen viewing the atrocities of Israeli military on Gaza as if they were viewing a movie from the top row of a cinema.

A representative of the Labour Party gave a speech on behalf of the party leader Jeremy Corbyn, in which she confirmed her party's solidarity with Gaza, and their rejection of Israel's use of force against the demonstrators as well as the silence of the global community about the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation. Sixteen protesters were shot dead during the day's demonstrations.

However, a Palestinian man was killed by an IDF airstrike after attempting to cross the border on Thursday.

Violence spiked again on Friday when thousands of protesters returned to the border. He pointed out that the residents of the Gaza Strip are subject to a decade-long blockade, and they suffer from the worldwide community's disregard for their basic human and political rights.

The European Union and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have called for an independent investigation into Israel's use of force, which Israel has repeatedly rejected. "Civilians must be able to exercise their right to demonstrate peacefully".

Liz Throssell, a spokeswoman for the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, warned that, under worldwide law, firearms could be used only in cases of extreme necessity, as a last resort and in response to an imminent threat of death or risk of serious injury.

The U.S. has avoided condemning Israel, instead criticizing those organizing the protests. Among the injured were 40 children.
